#1. How big is your addressable market and how did you determine it?
Ten percent of businesses earn $500k to $1million a year, meaning they have the budget to pay well for copy and content.
#2. You have come a long way. What do you think are the 5 most important aspects of successful sales and conversions for a startup?
The #1 most important thing is being able to address a known problem with a valid solution. Everything else just reduces objections: name recognition, credibility, a strong track record, social proof.
#3. What marketing tactic/campaign was most beneficial for your startup?
I built my business with blogging and social media.
#4. What’s the worst marketing move you regret making the most?
I don’t regret anything. If it didn’t work, I learn from it. That’s just as valuable as a win.
#5. While working on endorsing your brand, did you (or do you still) incorporate online marketing and sales tools? Can you name 5 of your favorite ones?
My favorite online tools are: Yoast, Social Jukebox, Filmora, Thrivecart, Market Samurai
#6. What is your company in 2–5 words?
Copywriting and content that converts.
#7. What made you choose this path of building a startup instead of a 9 to 5 job?
I like the freedom and control it gives me.
#8. If you were your own mentor, what’s the most important advice you’d give yourself?
Trust your gut.
#9. What do you enjoy the most about the day-to-day management of your business? What do you enjoy the least?
I like the variety of projects. That keeps things fun and interesting. I hate the lack of time to try all the great ideas I have.
#10. How do you plan to manage the shift from a small business to a scalable company?
I like being a solopreneur. I’m not planning to scale beyond that.
#11. Why are you the right CEO? Do you plan to continue in that role in the future?
I do plan to stay in that role. No one else could fill that role.
#12. Where do you see your startup in the next five years?
In 5 years, I’d like the new income streams I’m working on to be up and running well. That should free up time to take on some of the passion projects I’ve had on the back burner.
#13. What obstacles did you face while trying to reach your goals and what steps did you take to overcome them?
There’s not enough time to work in my business and still work on it. It takes time to grow and scale my business, but that time must go to my clients first.
#14. Who do you look to as a role model?
I watch a handful of marketers for ideas and inspiration: Bob Bly, Marcia Yudkin, Perry Marshall, and more.
#15. What motivates you?
I’m not trying to build an empire or change the world. The call to “hustle” doesn’t work on me. Instead, I’m motivated by the friendships I’ve built and the joy of doing what I love every day.
#16. Are you willing to work holidays or weekends?
Yes, I work most days.
#17. Any advice for new startup owners?
Know what you want and don’t get distracted by all the bright shiny objects that will promise instant success. It takes time to build something special. Give it the time it deserves.
