Another PC Fair and another time to go crazy. Feels like to buy everything and anything. I’ve previously written about Pikom PC Fair at April 2008. These Kind of PC fair can really drive a lot of people for sales. Not to mention now is Malaysia Grand Sales season so every shopping complex is packed, It’s weekend and PC fair is just beside KLCC so there was enormous amount of people were there. Well Lets cut the chase and dive into some info. Me, my colleagues/friends Nick and Chui we all geek went there together and spend some quality 8 hours time at PC Fair (huh!). First of all there were so many peoples over there.
And all the corporate companies had their beauty contest (for sales) which I will reveal in a while. At top floor Acer, Benq, Asus, Hp, Sony, Epson, Samsung and Intel booths. Acer had a lot of crowd because Acer is the only brand giving affordable laptops for general population. There was Twinhead laptops too but totally not recommended because of their heating problems and similar things. Lexmark has sold a lot of printers and because they were offering lowest price on monotone laser (RM199!), All in one and similar stuff. Samsung, Sony, Panasonic booths were had crowd for Cameras, LCD TV’s and of course Sony has their own style of VIAO laptops which is just awesome but yet a bit pricey (But the quality is there). Sony displayed a different prototype of desktop replacement and a mobile multimedia station which was so sleek, it has a qwerty keyboard with a touchpad and when you fold up the keyboard toward the machine the desktop changes the mode to media center. The whole system concept was a bit more like MAC but it stands out because of it’s sleekness. Benq also gathered a lot of crowd where the main promotions were on LCD Panels and Benq Laptops which had really outstanding value for money.
I couldn’t resist and I get myself a BenQ G2200W (22 Inch LCD with SenseEye Technology) for RM676!! Thanks a lot Nick. Samsung LCD is much more better in functions of controlling colors but almost the same specs as mine costs about RM875. Anyway Chui was running all over the laptop shops to compare his choice of laptops. Ah he actually went to ACER booth for 8 times in total but since he prefers a better Quality for price so he end up buying a Benq Joybook S32B!! hmm.
BenQ Joybook S32B Specifications (rm2399 basic price)
BenQ joybooks are well known for their awesome leather feel interface and stability yet the price is not that high.
We’ve encountered the Ultimate gaming laptop from ASUS (ASUS G70) which is priced at RM9888. Just look at the configuration you’ll feel the heat, Core 2 Duo T9300 with 6M L2 cache, Intel wireless N, Vista ultimate, 2x 640GB drives, 2 GB high speed ram, 17.1″ Full HD screen, Dual NVIDIA SLI 1GB Vram with GDDR3, Bluetooth, Lan, 1.3M webcam, BlueRay DVD combo … what else anyone need? That is like super Megatron laptop. In the Sound Systems area Altec Lansing, Sonic Gear and Edifier were most busy. Personally I prefer the sound of Altec Lansing for the sound acoustics. But Sonic gear made most of the sales because they had a wide range of products which are affordable. Desktop PC prices were about 3% less than the previous PC Fair. Then at the ground floor the Pasar Malam of Computer accessories had river of peoples. Sales peoples used cow bells and many other methods to attract customers. Hot stuff like flash disks, portable drives, memory cards, graphic cards, anti virus software prices went down a lot more. They had prices like a 8GB pen drive from RM77, SDHC sandisk 4GB card from RM50, Kaspersky Internet security from RM60. Just for the info try avoid buying Kingston flash/pen/usb drives because they are not good at all, always use Transcend, CorsAir, Apacer brands, they are really reliable (From practical experiences). A lot of laptop products came with lot of freebies which made the purchases more interesting. That was most of it other than the creamy line up of Maxis, Celcom and Digi. Maxis 3.6mbps 3G Internet offered as “No Contract, RM100” hmm, but I avoid maxis 3G Internet because it has download limitations, you can have a look at the Maxis Internet limitations as I mentioned in my Malaysian Broadband Topic. And about graphics cards NVIDIA rules the market and the price came down to more affordable level such as an example a Nvidia 8500 GT 256MB 128bit GDDR3 priced from RM240+, there were also other high end NVIDIA cards from 96XX series with SLI which are priced from RM450+.
And just for the precaution when you buy products from PC Fair always insist on to check the product when you are buying it, avoid buying products from companies which are not easy to reach to, check for warranty and keep the receipt.
Now at last but not least here is an example of how the corporate vendors bringing there sales fast and furious mode along with the beauty contest.
